As educators or leaders in our settings, we are charged with inspiring our children or staffs to embrace approaches to learning that engage children’s hearts and minds and communicating to families the learning that occurs in our schools. All of us know what is taught; however, few of us pause to consider why we teach what we teach. If we take the time to think about and articulate the why, chances are we will be forced the revisit the how: the way we educate our children. In schools that begin with the why, understanding takes the center stage of their educational goal, and consequently children develop the necessary skills to not only navigate and survive in the world but to thrive in the 21st century and be joyful and productive members of it. If you are a classroom educator, come explore how can you shift your curriculum planning; if you are a leader, come explore how you can shift your framework for communicating with educators and families through this new lens, based on Simon Sinek’s “Golden Circle.”
