Planning for the Jewish holidays can easily align with more emergent and authentic approaches to teaching and learning. Alvin Toffler said, “You’ve got to think about BIG things while you’re doing small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.”  Backwards Design can be a tool to make that happen and re-energize you as an educator in the process. Through uncovering the big/leading ideas underlying the holiday and developing powerful “essential questions” for ourselves and the children, you’ll find deeper and more meaningful experiences evolve in your thinking and curriculum planning. Come join us as we explore this process and actively apply Backwards Design to the most sacred holiday on the calendar: Shabbat.
